The PowerUnit enables a BÜTTNER ELEKTRONIK LiFePO4 battery to be easily and safely combined with the existing on-board battery (AGM/gel/liquid acid). Both battery systems are connected with the included cable set. A special CONTROL battery computer monitors and controls the system. This is connected to the BMS (battery management system) of the lithium battery and prevents further charging by the existing charging systems when the lithium battery is fully charged, but the charging devices must continue to charge the built-in on-board battery due to their AGM or gel characteristic. In addition, the CONTROL battery computer shows the remaining total capacity of the complete battery system in the interior.

Advantage: All existing charging devices can remain in the vehicle and continue to be operated. The mostly new or still intact on-board battery – regardless of capacity and design – remains installed and works purely as a backup battery. It is used when the lithium battery is almost completely discharged or has been switched off by the battery computer due to external circumstances. The disconnection is activated at extremely low temperatures or when the lithium battery has to be switched off due to high interior temperatures.

Installation is very quick and easy, because no changes to the existing charging system are required.
1) Connect batteries in parallel.
2) Connect the battery computer to the lithium battery.
3) Program the battery computer to the system.

Additional function: If the vehicle is not used as a touring vehicle, this can be set at the touch of a button on the battery computer. As long as this sleep function is activated, the lithium battery is not fully charged but kept in the optimum partial charge state. This significantly increases the lifetime of the LiFePO4 battery.

Tip: The longer charging times caused by the increased battery capacity can be compensated for with an additional charger. The compact chargers with 25 A or 50 A are ideal.
